ImageOn Saturday, October 4th, a group of Rotarians along with a few friends and family members, spent the morning at The Women’s Center in Waukesha for a hands-on service project involving several demolition projects. Eleven people took part in the effort that was coordinated by TWC Director of Operations – and Elmbrook Rotarian, Mike Hogan as the group demolished an old vestibule on one house that was largely unused. Two other houses had front porches and railings that needed to be demolished to make way for new composite decking, railings and stairs.

After waivers were signed, Jack Nelson, his daughter Amy, Gary Zwirlein, and Mark Thurner tackled the vestibule and tore down framing, siding and broke apart the cinder block foundation. The guys had a lot of fun with the power tools and fortunately the only casualty was when Amy stepped on a nail; thankfully, it was minor.

Marc Devries, his fiancé Brittany, two of their friends, Liam Kelly, and Steve Stocker ripped apart the 2 old porches and found a few old, discarded soda and beer cans plus a skeleton of what looked like a squirrel or maybe a rat. When all the work was done, the old debris was enough to fill up a huge 20 yard dumpster!

Mike was appreciative of everyone’s efforts and he said the work saved the TWC as much as $2,000. Thanks to everyone who took part!
