In response to a request from the people of Flor Blanca & Palibatz, in the northern part of the municipality of Joyabaj, in the department of Quiché Guatemala eSin Fronteras designed and with the help of our partners in Guatemala constructed this 75-foot long cast-in-place concrete bridge over a river.

Approximately 100 families live in Flor Blanca and 132 live in Palibatz with a combined population of approximately 2,000. The communities had been separated by a river which was impassible during the rainy season from May to November, cutting off access to Jr. High School, High School, the regional hospital in Joyabaj and access to the market in Joyabaj. With this new bridge the communities now have year round access. Other major beneficiaries of the project include the approximately 30,000 residents of the communities of Xechpup, Portezvelo, Buena Vista, Las Cuevas, Via Alterna de la Cerretera Principal, Talaxoc, Sechum, Chaquenom, Percon, Pacoxol, San Juan Los Llanos, and Joyabaj. Construction was completed in February 2026.
