Bikes for Stripes MHVI Volunteer Opportunity
Jun. 14, 2024 11:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m.

For the past three Rotary years the “Bikes for Stripes” program of the Milwaukee Homeless Verterans Initiative (MHVI) has received a Mini-Grant from the Elmbrook Rotary Club Foundation.

On Friday, June 14, 2024 (Flag Day), MHVI will sponsor a “Bikes for Stripes Summer Resource Fair” on the site of the West Allis Farmers Market (6501 W National Ave). Some 14 different partnering organizations will be onsite to offer free resources to veterans.  The event is scheduled for the hours of 11:00 a.m. — 3:00 p.m. Please see the attached publicity flyer.

Ms. Debbie Buchanan, Exec. Dir. of MHVI, has shared that they will need help with the following duties:

  • distributing bikes, helmets, & locks
  • serving food
  • distributing hygiene items and other giveaways
  • effecting setup/cleanup
  • a couple of people to float around - providing assistance to veterans, if needed

I plan to be present during the entire event, both to assist and to coordinate volunteers from Elmbrook Rotary Club. If you are available to assist on that day for any period of time, please send me an email (lwmyers2@att.net OR myerlslw2@gmail.com), give me a call (414-915-3040), or speak to me at a club meeting. I will need to know the times you are available and the duties you prefer.

I realize that this event follows on the heels of our Elmbrook Family Fest. However, it provides another opportunity for service. And, because the event is four weeks from this Friday and two weeks after our own event, I am confident that some ERC members will want to assist. Please remember that veterans issues were ranked high in our club's updated strategic planning.

Brookfield Farmers Market Produce Pickup
Jul. 06, 2024

Rotary Shooters Fellowship Monthly Clays Outing - July 18
Jul. 18, 2024 4:30 p.m. - 7:00 p.m.

Join the Rotary Straight Shooters fellowship for our monthly outing on Thursday, July 19. We'll enjoy a pleasant evening of fellowship and comradery while breaking clay targets at the Waukesha Gun Club. We'll shoot Sporting Clays from one of the two courses. Sportings Clays is similar to golf in that we walk the course in groups of 3 to 5 shooters and shoot pairs of clay targets from 10 - 16 stands along the course. The clays are thrown in various presentations. Scores are based on the number of clays that are broken (before they hit the ground). Unlike golf however, the higher the score the better.

If the weather doesn't cooperate, we'll shoot 5-Stand from one of the heated and covered houses at the Club.

We will meet at 4:30 p.m. in the clubhouse to check-in and then proceed to one of the courses.

Guests and anyone new to shooting are welcome. We'll have seasoned members there to coach and help you. Shotguns and shells are avaialble for rent/purchase at the Club.

After shooting, we’ll gather at a nearby establishment for socializing, refreshments, and food.

D6270 & D6250 Shooting Fellowships Clays Outing
Aug. 03, 2024 10:00 a.m. - 1:30 p.m.

Join the District 6250 & District 6270 Shooting Sports Fellowships for a special joint outing organized by the Elmbrook Rotary Straightshooters and the Shooting Sports Fellowship of the Rotary Club of Madison. We will enjoy a morning of shooting Sporting Clays on Saturday, June 22 August 3 at the scenic Milford Hills Hunt Club. Enjoy Rotary fellowship and comradery and share experiences with other Rotarians while breaking clay targets.

We will meet at 10:00am in the Milford Hills Trading Post and then proceed to one of the two courses. Sporting clays is very much like golf with a shogun. We walk the course and shoot from stands positioned around the course that throw clay targets in a variety of presentations. However, unlike golf, higher scores are preferred.

Shot shells are availiable for purchase in the Milford Hills Trading Post.

After shooting, we’ll enjoy lunch, refreshments, and comradery in the Milford Hills Pub.

Please rsvp to Harry Farchmin so we know how many shooters to plan for.

Brookfield Farmers Market Produce Pickup
Sep. 28, 2024
Collect produce from farmers market vendors for the Salvation Army Food Pantry.  At the end of the farmer market (noon) vendors may have produce that they were unable to sell, so this activity collects that extra produce that would otherwise go bad.

Sign up here: Signup

What is involved:
  1. Meet Bobbi Harvey at the entrance the farmers market at 11:45am to pick up tubs to carry produce.  Bringing a wagon is helpful since the tubs can get heavy.
  2. Visit each produce vendor and ask if they have any unsold produce they would like to donate to the Salvation Army Food Pantry.
  3. Bring the tubs back to Bobbi to get weighed and loaded into her car.
  4. Done!

Rotary Shooting Sports Fellowship Clays Outing - October 17
Oct. 17, 2024 4:30 p.m. - 7:00 p.m.

Join the Rotary Straight Shooters fellowship for our monthly outing on Thursday, Oct 17 as we enjoy a pleasant evening of fellowship and comradery while breaking clay targets at the Waukesha Gun Club. We'll shoot Sporting Clays from one of the two courses. Sportings Clays is similar to golf in that we walk the course in groups of 3 to 5 shooters and shoot pairs of clay targets from 10 - 16 stands along the course. 50 clays are thrown in various presentations.
